Apostille is not a common word people see everyday, and there is a very good chance some of us may never have heard of it. Apostille will come up when you engage in personal or business affairs with foreign authorities or organizations. Typically, foreign entities are not likely to accept or recognize documents from other countries without proper certification, authentication, and / or translation.
See “What is Apostille?” in our FAQ page.
You can request an apostille for yourself, or for your friends and family members and save hundreds of dollars.
Preparations:
1. Before planning the trip to the California Secretary Of State Los Angeles office, you may want to check if your document is:
The original notarized document with the signature and the seal of the notary public or
A certified document issued by the appropriate government office with certification authority
2. Fill out the Apostille Request Cover Sheet
3. Prepare the fees according to the number of apostille you plan to obtain. The California Secretary of State Los Angeles office accepts payment by credit card (VISA / Mastercard), check or money order. See the fee schedule in the Apostille Request Cover Sheet.
Executions:
The Los Angeles Office is located in the Ronald Reagan building
300 South Spring Street, Room 12513
Los Angeles, CA 90013
Phone: (213) 897-5310
Business Hours:
Monday through Friday (excluding State Holidays)
8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Like any downtown area, there is no free parking in and around the building. You will find metered parking on the streets or a few parking sites with fees around the blocks. The office is quite busy most of the time, so it would be good if you allocate at least a 30 – 90 minutes wait time. Obtain a ticket number upon your arrival, and you may wait in the room. During busy hours, you may be asked to wait on the second floor until your number comes up.

Reminder: The Los Angeles office only accepts apostille requests in person. The Sacramento office would accept apostille requests by mail and in person.
